SEC and CFTC to Harmonize Crypto Rules in Joint Roundtable
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) will convene on September 29 to align regulatory approaches for digital assets. The move aims to reduce fragmentation, which has historically stifled innovation and driven crypto activity offshore.
Regulatory chiefs Paul Atkins and Caroline Pham emphasized that coordinated oversight will lower barriers, improve market efficiency, and reinforce U.S. leadership in global finance. "Our nation’s dual-agency structure can become a competitive advantage when we act in unison," their joint statement noted.
The roundtable responds to recommendations from the President’s Working Group on Digital Asset Markets, seeking to balance innovation with investor protections. Key discussion points include adapting market hours to accommodate round-the-clock crypto trading.
